President and chief financial officer Ryan Novaczyk has served New Perspective Senior Living for more than a decade. Ryan Novaczyk and his team work to provide active older adults with homes where they can feel comfortable and enjoy a full range of amenities. New Perspective Senior Living also brings a new perspective to its marketing and advertising, realizing that contemporary seniors maintain the same interests that marked their younger years. In 2017, New Perspective Senior Living drew positive attention for its ad campaign that celebrated the joys and challenges of aging in today’s world. The campaign consciously worked to break free of outmoded stereotypes of senior adults and the things they look for in long-term living communities. Instead of offering stock photos and a rote list of features, the New Perspective Senior Living approach was to bring in real seniors who described their personal experiences and their reasons for choosing the New Perspective Senior Living community. Residents in the campaign offered relatable stories about their wish to stay independent, to enjoy life on their own terms, and to build a life around learning, doing, and contributing. As the chief financial officer and president of New Perspective Senior Living, headquartered in the Greater Minneapolis Area, Ryan Novaczyk brings decades of experience in finance, marketing, development, and acquisition to his work. At New Perspective Senior Living, Ryan Novaczyk and his team serve several thousand older adults who have chosen to make one of the company’s more than 20 communities their home. Mr. Novaczyk is the recipient of awards for the quality of the New Perspective Senior Living communities. In 2017, he earned a nod from LeadingAge Minnesota, which named him one of the “50 for the Next 50.” This award honors people who provide leadership in the field of older adult services. Since 1967, LeadingAge Minnesota has served as the largest group of organizations dedicated to senior services in the state. In making its selections for “50 for the Next 50,” LeadingAge Minnesota leaders noted that they were looking for people in the process of transforming all aspects of senior living for the better, people who are obvious pioneers in the effort to help older adults stay active, engaged, and youthful by offering high-quality care and support across a broad range of communities and facilities. Ryan Novaczyk, the president and CFO of New Perspective Senior Living, is responsible for sales, accounting, staffing, and business development of the company’s facilities in Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. Active in several industry associations, Ryan Novaczyk is a member of the Assisted Living Federation of America.
If you have a relative with dementia, make sure that his or her assisted living center provides quality memory care. When you tour the facility, ask if staff members are able to accommodate all stages of dementia or if the resident will be asked to move if the illness progresses past a certain point. Also ask about the caregiver-to-patient ratio, which should be no higher than 1 to 7 for patients with advanced dementia. In addition, inquire if staff members will develop a formal, written plan of care and if they will be able to assist with all daily living activities, including eating, bathing, and using the restroom. Finally, ask about the memory care programs and activities that are offered to residents and the training the staff receives to care for patients with dementia. An expert in long term care operations, Ryan Novaczyk provides operational oversight of New Perspective Senior Living, where he serves as president and CFO. Outside of his work, Ryan Novaczyk is active with industry organizations that include the American Seniors Housing Association and the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC), where he serves on the Operator Advisory Board. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, NIC provides data and analytics to investors, analysts, and operators in the senior housing sector. In addition to helping industry professionals make informed investment decisions and increasing capital inflows to the sector, the organization works to support access and choice for senior citizens. Currently, NIC analyzes data across 140 of the largest metro markets in the United States. These data sets include inventory, occupancy rates, rental costs, and sales transactions information. The organization also develops time series data sets that explore supply and demand indicators, financials, property transaction information, and investment performance metrics. Moreover, NIC strives to improve the transparency of the senior housing sector through several new data initiatives. These include the development of indicators for operation metrics for housing providers, nursing home quality, lender volume, and attitudinal data sets.
